The Book

Frankie Buster and the First Day of School

Written by Nicole Avila | Illustrated by Marie Del | Published by Brave Steps Press

Starting kindergarten can be a little scary, until you meet the right friend.

Coco is nervous about her very first day of school.
What if she gets lost?
What if no one talks to her?
With a fluttery tummy and a million worries, she steps into her new classroom… and meets Frankie Buster — the class pet lizard!

Frankie may be small and scaly, but his calm presence helps Coco feel safe and brave in her new surroundings.

As the day goes on, Coco begins to smile, make friends, and discover that kindergarten isn’t scary at all — it’s full of fun, learning, and friendship.

Perfect for ages 3–6, this heartwarming picture book helps ease first-day-of-school jitters.
Also great for nervous parents sending their little ones off for the first time - or anyone facing a new beginning.

Whether you’re preparing for the first day of preschool, kindergarten, or a new class, Frankie Buster and the First Day of School is a comforting companion for life’s big “firsts.” A sweet reassuring tale for young readers and the big hearts who guide them.

“Frankie Buster helped my daughter feel ready for kindergarten. We read it every night the week before school!”
— Parent of a 4-year-old
